Joseph D. Valdez

Joseph is a Los Angeles-based actor, writer, and educator. As an actor, Joseph has worked professionally in new works, classical works, film, audio, commercial, and multimedia productions. Locally, he has worked with several theatre companies, including Echo Theater Company, Circle X, Boston Court, The Vagrancy, and Native Voices at the Autry. As a playwright, his work has been produced and/or developed at Native Voices at the Autry, The Vagrancy, La Jolla Playhouse, the Ebell of Los Angeles, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and others. He has been named a finalist and semi-finalist for the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Playwrights Conference, a finalist for Playwrights Realm’s Native American Artist Lab and SparkFest at Amphibian Stage, and a semi-finalist for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival. He was featured in American Theatre magazine’s inaugural Role Call: People to Watch, received the Joan Beber Playwriting Award, and was a member of the Indigenous Writers Collaborative at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from the University of Southern California.
